In most of my life, I can see things as simply black or white. Murder is bad, charity is good. Crap, but what about murdering a Hitler or giving charity to a terrorist organization that uses the money to kill innocent civilians? Argh! Am I wishy-washy??? Well, that aside, most of the more 'controversial' issues leave me with a headache because I feel like I over analyze them and I don't have a religious or political organization to brainwash me into believing something simply because I'm a member.
I guess this all struck me because of the Scott Peterson thing. Have they made a decision yet? Lemmee check... ...nope... So basically my conflict with the death penalty is that if murder is bad then how is killing a guilty person good ? Or is it simply the lesser of two evils?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary:
Murder:The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.
Capital Punishment: The penalty of death for the commission of a crime.
Law: A rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority.
So killing another human is wrong except when ordained by the state... And according to Gregg v. Georgia, capital punishment is not ian inherent violation of the 8th amendment (cruel and unusual punishment.) So any killing that the state does has to be quick and humane.
I'm just overwhelmed that the only difference between murder and capital punishment is a piece of paper that says we can do it because either (1)We've always done it, (2)We agreed to do it, or (3)We're doing it because we can...
I just don't know if humans should be in charge of that big a decision when they can't even push a stinkin button for whom they want to be president without getting confused... LOL
Okay, enough seriousness, I promise something fun tomorrow! Have fun today campers... I'll be at work so if anybody needs me, you can im me on Yahoo or call. If you need my number, get it from Milla Jovavich. Sure she may SAY she doesn't know me and then ramble on something about a restraining order, blah blah blah, but come on... She wouldn't have done Resident Evil 2 if she didn't love me... Now where's that copy of Catcher in the Rye....
